Kuantan RTD branch head faces 19 corruption charges

A Road Transport Department (RTD) branch head claimed trial at the Special Corruption Sessions Court in Kuantan today to 19 charges of corruptly accepting valuable items worth RM12,300.

Muadzam JPJ branch head Azhar Ahmed, 51, allegedly accepted the items on a monthly basis from lorry operators around Muadzam Shah between 2012 and September this year.

He faces Section 165 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of two years or a fine or both, on conviction.

Judge Habibah Mohamed Yusof set RM21,000 as bail with one surety and December 22 for re-mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Shafinaz Shabudin represented the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) while the accused was unrepresented. – Bernama, November 24, 2015.
