HungryGoWhere has come across bakery cafes, French cafes, and even all-pork cafes in this F&B hub. From PFCC to SetiaWalk and beyond, here are the best cafes you should visit for brunch dishes, artisanal coffee, and delectable desserts!

Old School

This charming restaurant cafe was decorated to look like an old classroom, complete with menus printed exercise book-style, a chalkboard full of equations long forgotten, and even waitresses dressed in school uniforms! Old School’s menu is completely pork-infused, with an occasional chicken or beef dish. Drinks are pretty general here, but the pork dishes definitely steal the limelight in this cafe!

Our first order was the pulled pork burger (RM14.90), slow-roasted with a tangy barbeque, the meat just slid down our throats easily, and everyone at the table enjoyed it! The ingredients are simple: soft sesame charcoal buns, pulled pork, barbeque sauce, and shredded lettuce, but the combination tastes oh-so-good. The moment you pick this up, you won’t put it down until you’ve finished every bite. The wedges were nice and crispy as well, making up for a very satisfying meal with one dish alone.

The Old School fried rice (RM14.90) just seemed like the right choice, but keep in mind readers, they also serve pork nasi lemak here! Our plate arrived heaving with a mountain of fried rice, topped with a decently sized omelette. The rice was fried with the usual suspects (carrots, green beans, onions, and shrimp), but the pieces of pork and luncheon meat made all the difference for a tasty, greasy dish. We don’t know why we were surprised when we finished every last grain of this dish too.

TiPsy Brew o’ Coffee

In SetiaWalk is the famous TiPsy Brew o’ Coffee – don’t let the haphazard lettering throw you off, this place means business when it comes to their coffee, having large informative murals and graphics on their walls to educate customers.

Aside from siphoned, hand dripped, and French pressed coffee, TiPsy Brew also has cold drip Dutch coffee, and the regular offerings of lattes and mochas. Their menu is incredibly extensive, with drinks, snacks, food, and cake for everyone. What really caught our eyes were their “wellness boosters”: juices made for specific health purposes with humorous names such as The Vibrant Juice (carrot, pineapple, and milk for stomach and digestive problems, RM10.90) and Cholesterol Buster (apple, cucumber, and celery to prevent cancer, reduce cholesterol, and aid stomach upset or headache, RM10.90).\

The pastries were warm, and had an almost flaky consistency, which was great because it didn’t crumble into pieces when we cut into it. The dish came with sides of clotted cream and jam (very English), which were not too bad by our standards.

Porcupine Place

Located at the far end of SetiaWalk, Porcupine Place is the owners’ idea of sound play on "pork", which features extensively on its menu. Surgeon-turned-chef Wen and her Swiss-trained chef partner Jon take pride in making everything from scratch – from homemade pasta and bread, to home-smoked bacon and salmon. The duo enjoy blending Western techniques with local flavours, which has earned them a loyal following for their creativity.

If you’re starved, choose the ever popular Hungry Belly (RM22) – an all-day breakfast dish with choux pastry stuffed with bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, cherry tomatoes, and sautéed mushrooms. The savoury choux bun lends a fluffier texture to this hearty dish, while the six-hour hickory-smoked bacon and sausage has a satisfyingly rich flavour without being overwhelmingly salty.

Don't miss out on this incredible rendition of French toast! – HungryGoWhere pic, October 6, 2015.Don't miss out on this incredible rendition of French toast! – HungryGoWhere pic, October 6, 2015.For a sweet note, try their Golden Brioche (RM18) – Porcupine Place’s version of French toast! The brioche chunks are coated in cereal, dipped in egg white, then lightly fried into crunchy bite-sized pieces with hints of vanilla. Dip the chunks into either the signature homemade curds in lime, lemon, or orange and ginger. The curd itself is good enough to eat on its own!
