Moderate earthquake strikes northwest Rukyu Islands

A moderate earthquake, measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale, struck Northwest Rukyu Islands at 3.03pm today, according to the Meteorological Department.

It said the epicentre of the quake was 258km southwest of Kagoshima, Japan, and 2,843km northeast of Kudat, Sabah.

The quake did not pose any tsunami threat, it said in a statement.  – Bernama, March 14, 2016.
