What I Think

Online and in print, the media in Malaysia is freer than it has ever been, Putrajaya said today in the face of Malaysia falling below Myanmar in the Press Freedom Index. Putrajaya is right and it is true. Online and print are free but a radio station cannot air an interview with Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. And getting a publishing licence is like hitting the jackpot. Should we be grateful for tender mercies? No. We should be able to exercise our freedom of expression. And media outlets should be able to publish or broadcast and be damned. Not regulated like sheep.
