In a post on photo-sharing platform Instagram, Nazir said the movie brought back memories of the good old days when Malaysia was a better place.
“Brought back memories of being at Merdeka Stadium on that glorious night. More importantly, it was a powerful reminder of a better Malaysia back then.
“Corruption subsequently damaged our football.
“Corruption and racism has undermined our nation building.
“Felt very sad afterwards,” said Nazir, CIMB group chairman and younger brother of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
“Ola Bola”, which premiered on January 28, was inspired by the true story of how the national football team was able to overcome the odds and defeat South Korea in a pre-Olympic qualifying match in 1980.
Directed by Chiu Keng Guan, the movie raked in RM8 million after 13 days, with many commending its multiracial message. – February 16, 2016.
