Look beyond studies when seeking jobs, deputy minister tells grads

He said both local and overseas graduates should not be too dependent on jobs in the civil service or large companies.

"I hope they will not be tied to whatever they learnt so that they can work with others but the knowledge they obtained should be translated into their own initiatives," he told the media after the prize-presentation ceremony for the Rural Business Challenge (RBC) 2015 in the Business Ideas category today.

Ahmad Jazlan said efforts made by developed countries such as Germany which had strengthened the technical and vocational sector to meet its human resource needs should be emulated.

He added that the public should not view technical and vocational courses as third-class since various skills were needed for national development.

"We already have many academics, but we are still depending on foreign workers and this is a loss to the country, we also lose in terms of job opportunities," he said. – Bernama, December 28, 2015.
