The goal scored by Mohd Faiz, 29, who plays for Super League team Penang, has been compared to one scored by former Brazil and Real Madrid left-back Roberto Carlos.

"I have been told by FAM secretary-general Datuk Hamidin Muhd Amin that FAM will nominate Faiz's wonder goal to FIFA," he told reporters after launching the "Moh Bedil" programme at the National Sport Council (NSC) today.

Introduced by FIFA in 2009, the Puskas Award is given for the most beautiful goal scored in the world throughout the year.

Faiz's outrageous free kick from 35m out was reminiscent of a similar goal scored by Roberto Carlos against France in 1998.

Faiz's rocket free kick swerved into the goal leaving the goalkeeper in awe as Penang thrashed Pahang 4-1 in a Super League match at City Stadium on February 16. – Bernama, February 20, 2016.
