Ustaz gets five months, fined for attempted polygamy

A man known as the “Ustaz Casanova” was today sentenced to five months in prison and fined RM4,000 by the Syariah Lower Court in Kuala Lumpur for attempting to commit polygamy and marrying without permission, involving four women.

Syarie Judge Mohd Saifullah Hamzah handed down the sentence to Mohd Razis Ismail, 34, and ordered him to serve another five months in prison in lieu of the fine.

Mohd Razis was charged with three counts of attempting to commit polygamy without the court’s permission with three women, aged 24, 35, and 30 years.

He was also charged with two counts of marrying the same 24-year-old woman and another woman, aged 40, without the permission of court registrar.

The court sentenced him to a fine of RM800 and a month in prison on each count.

Mohd Saifullah ordered Mohd Razis to serve the sentence after he completed the 12 months in prison and six strokes of the rotan imposed by the Syariah High Court on March 7 for committing illicit sex with a woman, which resulted in the birth of a child.

The three offences of attempting polygamy were committed in Kedah; Golok, Thailand; and at a flat on Jalan Loke Yew; between April 4, 2010 and August 26, 2012, under Section 133 of the Islamic Family Law (Federal Territories) Act 1984. – Bernama, March 14, 2016.
